Wearing a sunscreen protects the skin from burning and skin aging. Of course, this sun product must be applied in the right way to be fully protected! We are therefore happy to give you 5 tips for applying sunscreen. Read more about this below:
1 | Morning routine
An SPF usually starts working effectively after half an hour. This means you should apply the sunscreen early before your skin is getting exposed to UV radiation and/or blue light. Integrate the sunscreen (or a moisturizer with SPF, for example) into your morning routine to make sure the protection is sufficiently absorbed and really working before you leave the house.
2 | Don’t forget me
There are a number of spots that are difficult to apply sunscreen on, and are therefore often forgotten or skipped. For example, think of the ears, lips and hair parting. It’s precisely these places that are important to include because they catch lots of sunlight and are therefore more vulnerable to burning.
3 | UV-A and UV-B radiation
UV-A mainly causes skin aging and UV-B causes burning. We have a mnemonic to remember this. UV-Aging and UV-Burning. In the end, always make sure to use a sunscreen that protects against both UV rays so you don’t run any risks.
4 | Quantity
One of the most frequently asked questions is: “How much sunscreen does my skin need to be optimally protected?” It was once calculated that 3 gr (= approx. 1 teaspoon) is sufficient for the face and neck. That’s roughly equivalent to 4 pumps of our Protecting Face Sunscreen SPF 30. Although you may need less cream to cover the entire face and neck, you still need more to be protected against harmful external influences. So, definitely think about this when applying your sun protection the next time.
5 | Reapply
And last but not least, to be optimally protected against UV radiation and blue light, it’s important to apply the SPF regularly. Especially when perspiring and swimming or after towelling, the protection decreases and we highly recommend to reapply. You’re totally fine when reapplying the sunscreen every 2 to 3 hours.
